To apply for the Queensland Police Service (QPS) via the Tertiary Entry Pathway, reducing the amount of psychometric testing you will be asked to attend, we recommend the following programs:
The course you choose will depend on your full time (F/T) work experience:

39293QLD Justice Studies Short Course (250 hours Diploma level) - suitable for people with 5 years F/T work experience
- 39292QLD Certificate IV in Justice Studies - suitable for people with between 3-5 years F/T work experience
- 39293QLD Diploma of Justice Studies - suitable for school leavers and people with under 3 years F/T work experience
- 21790VIC Advanced Diploma of Justice
What is full time F/T employment?
'Full-time employment is defined as employment after completing secondary education and may include voluntary or unpaid work performed on a regular basis (eg, caring for a family, or disabled or elderly people). Part-time or volunteer work experience is also recognised.' (Queensland Police Service 2011)
Our QLD39293 Diploma of Justice Studies is a 'relevant Diploma' and attracts an 'A' rating for education in the Queensland Police Service merit based selection process.

OPTIONAL (Driver training and Firearms familiarisation):
Driver training and firearms familiarisation:

The College also provides our students with the opportunity to attend a one and half day of driver training as 'part of our Justice Studies Short Course, Certificate IV and Diploma of Justice Studies workshop programs' with former Queensland and Australian Federal Police Driver Trainers.
What is covered?
Half day: Driver trainers talk in the classroom about the theory and laws required by drivers at a higher level.
Full day: Practical driving exercises at Mt Cotton Driver Training Complex including:
- Exercise 1: Emergency brake & avoidance.
- Exercise 2: Elevated Driving Techniques (forward planning, limit point analysis, scanning, entry speeds & placements, early braking, brake / accelerator transition.)
- Exercise 3: Slow speed manoeuvre.
- Exercise 4: Higher level driving
PLUS:
Urban Road-craft Drive. Participants will drive within the Brisbane suburban and city areas. Instruction centering on promoting the vehicle amongst traffic in a safe confident manner, complying with traffic legislation. Dictating to traffic in a safe manner as opposed to being dictated too. Driver assertiveness, scanning, observation, following distances, stopping distances, driver anticipation, driving to the conditions, pro-active rather than re-active.
PLUS:
Nationally Recognised Certificate:

All students attending this training will receive Apply Safe Car Driving Behaviours TLIC3036A - an approved driving course recognised by the Queensland Police Service. This Certificate is a mandatory entry requirement for 'P' plate drivers with 12 months driving experience.
PLUS - FIREARMS:
The College also provides our students with the opportunity to attend a theory session and one day practical firearms familiarisation workshop as 'part of our Justice Studies Short Course, Certificate IV and Diploma of Justice Studies workshop programs' with Registered Firearms Instructors, plus former Queensland and Australian Federal Police Firearms Specialists.
What is covered?
Theory: Instructors talk in the classroom during CLJA workshop program about the theory and laws relating to the Glock handgun used by police throughout Australia.
Full day: Practical safety and live firing exercises at a leading indoor firing range in Queensland including:
- Exercise 1: Range safety and safety features of weapon
- Exercise 2: Loading rounds in magazine and stripping weapon
- Exercise 3: Holding weapon and introduction to stance and finding front site on target
- Exercise 4: 50 rounds of live firing to enable familiarisation of recoil and sound when discharged (weapons are tethered - on cables for safety)

COST:
These two amazing programs are available as an option to ALL College students (workshop and external) for just one additional course payment plan payment. Students advise CLJA of their interest once the course commences.
